I have 2 Orient Power 48V 100Ah 5.12Kwh Powerwall LiFePO4 Wall Mounted Battery connected in parallel to 2 Orient Power LV6548 120VAC 48V 6500W inverters connected as US split phase.
I have my split phase gas generator connected to the AC input side of the inverters (L1 to Inverter 1 and L2 to inverter 2). I had originally set as SBU and changed to SUB, but the batteries were never charging and stuck on idle. I changed to USB and still only have the batteries idle and not charging at all. So far I can only charge with solar.
Hi Rick,
Thank you for providing a detailed overview of your setup — it really helps with troubleshooting.
Based on what you’ve described, and after reviewing with our technician, the key issue appears to be related to how your generator is wired into the inverter's AC input.
Our technician notes that the AC input for the inverter requires a single hot line (120V) and a neutral, not a split-phase 240V input (L1 and L2). Connecting L1 to Inverter 1 and L2 to Inverter 2 as split-phase may not deliver the correct waveform or voltage reference needed for battery charging, which can cause the BMS to remain in “idle” mode and prevent charging.
Recommended Solution:
Reconfigure your generator’s AC output so that the inverter receives a clean 120V signal with one hot line and one neutral.
Ensure the generator produces a pure sine wave output, as modified or distorted waveforms can also cause charging issues or be rejected by the inverter/BMS system.
Once this input is corrected, your batteries should begin to charge properly.
Best Regards,
Mr. Li
